AI regulation will require public discussion on ethics, accountability, transparency and security. It is being employed across a wide range of industries with impact on almost every aspect of the creation. Over the last two and a half years, the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative at the Berkman Klein Center has pursued an interdisciplinary approach to exploring and addressing novel challenges posed by artificial intelligence. How does that affect countries around the world, and especially developing nations? More specifically my work focused on national and international government policies on artificial intelligence. We employ roughly 270 associates worldwide, dedicated to over 185 projects within seven locations: Germany, India, United States, Israel, Shanghai and Netherlands. Our aim is to facilitate computational techniques that are both innovative and ethical, while drawing on the deeper context surrounding these issues from sociology, history, and science and technology studies. Our mission is to enhance public understanding of artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is producing new teaching and learning solutions that are currently being tested globally. I was part of a team responsible for identifying, collating and analysing national and international AI policies and legal documents.
These solutions require advanced infrastructures and an ecosystem of thriving innovators. The Paper also explores the curriculum and standards dimension of AI, with examples from the European Union, Singapore and the Republic of Korea on how learners and teachers are preparing for an AI-saturated world.Beyond the opportunities, the Paper also addresses the challenges and policy implications of introducing AI in education and preparing students for an AI-powered future.
