Sign up to our FREE newsletter belowBolton Wanderers have been dealt a serious blow as a club statement confirmed that their proposed takeover collapsed on Saturday.The Trotters have been in administration since the middle of May, although talks between Ken Anderson and Football Ventures, the preferred bidder, have been ongoing for months.Despite having a deal in place on Friday night, the statement has revealed that, with only Anderson's representatives yet to agree, the deal has fallen through.That leaves Bolton on the brink of extinction, which has been made abundantly clear by the administrators in a damning statement.Wanderers were given a Tuesday 5pm deadline to complete a deal or give reason for an extension, as we saw with Bury on Saturday or face expulsion from the English Football League, who they helped found in 1888.To make matters worse, the administrators have revealed the club does not have the funds to continue trading and if a deal if not agreed by Tuesday, the process of liquidating the club will begin on Wednesday.A statement from the administrators said: "At 5pm on Friday August 23, the completion of the sale of the football club and the hotel had been agreed by all parties and undertakings had been issued by all solicitors except those of Ken Anderson.

"Sadly, Mr Anderson has used his position as a secured creditor to hamper and frustrate any deal that did not benefit him or suit his purposes," he added.
