Joe Miller walked free despite confessing to killing the young boy.After leaving Broadchurch in a taxi at the end of series two, Hardy is back three years later to once again team up with DS Miller to solve a chilling new case.The local detective found it hard to suspect her close-knit community of murdering Danny Latimer in the first series, who was friends with her son Tom.Under the guidance of Hardy she learnt not to trust anyone, but was distraught when she discovered her own husband Joe was the murderer.The ultimate betrayal led Ellie to beat her beloved husband, which made his confession inadmissible and threw the trial into chaos.She was demoted and transferred to Devon, but helped Hardy solve the Sandbrook case and rebuilt her reputation.Joe got away with the murder but Ellie reconciled with the Latimer family and banished her husband from ever returning to Broadchurch.The single mum has now rebuilt her life and is bringing up her two sons while caring for her elderly father.Beth was overwhelmed after the death of her son Danny in series one and felt guilty for not checking him when she went to bed on the night of his murder.She was close friends with DS Miller but their friendship broke down as she accused her of deliberately sabotaging her husband Joe’s confession by attacking him.Beth discovered in front of the whole town that her husband Mark had planned to leave her before Danny was killed, which lead to the breakdown of their marriage.She gave birth to a second daughter in series two and is now trying to move on with her life and help others through counselling.The plumber was cheating on wife Beth and met his mistress Becca Fisher on the night of son Danny’s murder, causing him to feel a lot of guilt.Police first suspected he was behind the killing as he lied about his whereabouts to hide the affair, but was forced to confess all in court in series two.Mark almost got revenge as he nearly threw murderer Joe off a cliff, but he reluctantly released him and reunited with his family.However he has still not moved on in series three and can’t cope with the lack of justice for his son’s murder.The 15-year-old was left distraught after the shocking death of her younger brother.She struck up a relationship with older boy Dean Thomas who provided comfort to her, but they had to hide the fact they were having sex as Chloe was underage.The teenager’s problems continued in series two as she struggled to return to school while her parents’ secrets were being released in court.Chloe is now trying to adjust to a normal life and help look after her younger sister.The stay-at-home dad confessed to strangling Danny Latimer to death when the schoolboy threatened to reveal all about their secret meetings.Ellie brutally beat her husband after he was arrested, which he used to remove the confession as evidence in court.Joe was found not guilty and walked free, but had to escape the furious residents of Broadchurch, who banished him from ever returning to the town.Schoolboy Tom was initially accused of his pal Danny’s murder after he admitted to threatening him not long before he died.His life was turned upside down after he discovered his dad Joe was in fact the murderer.In series two Tom was constantly arguing with mum Ellie and was outraged that nobody was defending his dad, eventually moving in with his aunt.The youngster is now back at home but has developed an unhealthy obsession with porn, with mum Ellie being dragged in front of the school headteacher after he supplied videos to other pupils.The local vicar was a suspect in series one when he failed to produce an alibi to the detectives.Danny’s murder brings tonnes of worshippers to his failing church, where he comforts the residents in their dark hour.Paul caused outrage in series two by visiting Joe in prison, before helping to organise his escape from the town.Mark’s co-worker was also a suspect and his own mother Susan claimed to have seen him dragging Danny’s lifeless body onto the beach on the night of the murder.Joe’s confession took the heat off Nige, who rejected his terminally ill mother’s attempts to make amends.Nige and his workmate Mark teamed up to threaten Joe with throwing him off the edge of a cliff, but eventually allowed him to leave the tow unharmed.The editor of the Broadchurch Echo tried to work with the police in series one to solve the murder using her old journalist friends and access to hidden information.She attempted to reign in her ambitious young reporter Olly Stevens and forced him to apologise for
